Mayor’s Air Quality Action Fund (2013-2016)

London Borough of Merton_Mobile Air Quality Monitoing Unit

The London Borough of Merton secured funding through the Mayor of London’s Air Quality Action Fund to raise awareness of air quality and achieve improvements on the Willow Lane industrial estate, Mitcham. The estate contains around 150 businesses and is characterised by heavy industry and associated HGV movements.

 

Over the period 2013-2016 the main achievements of the project were:

  • Increase in green planting
  • Enhanced road/gully cleansing regime – removing over 12 tonnes of dust & debris
  • Engaging businesses on the issue of air quality

  • Delivery of sustainable travel training and support, including:
    • Distribution of Oyster cards to encourage use of public transport
    • Eco-driver training sessions
    • Cycle maintenance sessions
    • Compulsory motorcycle training vouchers
  • Improved cycle infrastructure on the northern access road
  • Improved way-finding signage on the estate to aid navigation
